What were your initial
expectations for the program?
Before starting the program, I expected a mix of volunteering and cultural exchange, with opportunities to gain international experience, improve my communication skills, and grow personally by stepping out of my comfort zone.
What did your volunteering consist of?
– My volunteering focused on intercultural learning and youth engagement. I designed and taught introductory Arabic language sessions for international participants, co-initiated an online cultural exchange program between AFS Egypt and AFS Latvia, and represented my country in cultural events and festivals.
I also helped mentor incoming exchange students, supported pre-departure orientations, and worked with local AFS teams on event planning, volunteer coordination, and virtual language exchange activities.
